Season Three — Episode One (Feat. Ian Servantes)
Monday Mar 26, 2018
Monday Mar 26, 2018
This is season three's premiere, featuring one of Not 97's strongest roster of artists ever. With Ian Servantes at the table—Highsnobiety's current Social Media Editor, a former writer for Complex Media, and an illustrious freelance—we discuss a wide range of sounds coming from London to Toronto, Illinois, Japan, and more.
The season kicks off heavy with "Everglade," an enchanting new delivery from Collard, a young londoner with a knee-weakening falsetto. We introduce Floyd Fuji, an exciting new solo project from Philly's Kyle Thornton, and discuss his unique brand of futuristic funk.
Midwesterner Mowgli floats through intricate flows on the sinister single "Dance With The Devil." And we break down Adult Mom's "Full Screen," a playful, pointed track about porn, gender norms, and much more.

Season Two — Episode Eleven (Featuring C.S. Armstrong's "Covers EP")
Monday Feb 12, 2018
Monday Feb 12, 2018
This is season two's bonus episode — one like we've never done before. Today's episode features an entire EP of covers recorded by LA-based singer/songwriter C.S. Armstrong. Across a low key but illustrious career Armstrong has developed a sound that is ruthlessly soulful, one that calls back to decades past while charging forward and defying boundaries.
This is an EP of covers, composed of timeless songs recorded by Armstrong with the intention of being placed in major motion pictures. For reaons unknown many of these songs never received soundtrack placement, however Armstrong's rendition of Bobby Bland's "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City" is currently in Taraji P. Henson's latest film Proud Mary.
Joining the table for today's episode is a NOT97 alum, our first ever recurring guest, Amsterdam's own Van Common. Since August, the Dutch artist has been traveling around America and was gracious enough to book end his trip with appereances on the show — from season one's bonus episode to now.
01 "Five to One" originally by The Doors

Season Two — Episode Ten (Feat. Novelty Daughter)
Monday Jan 29, 2018
Monday Jan 29, 2018
Season Two comes full circle with our final guest, Brooklyn's own Faith Harding aka Novelty Daughter, whose song "U Want What I Want" was featured on this season's debut episode. Faith introduces the off-kilter pop stylings of Ryan Powers, as well as Suzi Analogue, an ambitious electronic producer and DJ with a wholly unique sound landing in the lineage of footwork djs & experiemental instrumental hip-hop.
We discuss Loma—a newly-formed power trio from artists behind Shearwater and Cross Record—and their enchanting three-part harmonies on the single "Black Willow." Fresh-faced London four-piece Sorry offers a raw nod to grunge in their contagious track "Lies." And Portland duo Nurses delivers a warped psych balad with "In The Mirror."
We also play the title track from Faith's alluring & wonderfully daring 2017 record Inertia.

Season Two — Episode Eight (Feat. Charlie Adelman)

Tuesday Jan 02, 2018
Charlie Adelman is the ideal guest for Not 97. He has years of experience working in digital marketing and management at the major label level, and currently handles product management for Crush Music. But really that’s the least of it, because he lives a floor above Only NY, the home of this show.
On today’s episode Charlie introduces “Ready Yet,” a contagious creeper of a single from LA’s Sasha Sloan.
Duendita—a soulful, Queens-bred singer/songwriter—flaunts versatility on the hopefully offering “Pray.”
We explore Melbourne’s rock scene with the four-piece Neighbourhood Youth and their sunny new single “Lately.”
And uncover underground UK lyricists like ManikMC and Verbz.

Full disclosure: today's episode is sad, but beautifully so. With writer, social media editor, and radio dj @raewitte at the table we introduce a round of weighty songs powered by lost love, sacrifice, self-pity, and redemption.

Young Brooklyn-based lyricist Rosehardt battles through self-doubt and depression on his powerful single "Bad Song," while up-and-coming hip-hop artist Ophelia Cache stakes claim to her due fortune on the no bullshit release "Money."

The second run around the table hip hop takes over. We introduce a song about healthy eating from a prolific underground Atlanta rapper named Tha God Fahim, as well as a Neptunes-inspired track from Ohio's Vada Azeem, and some weighty, rasp-ridden bars from Dallas's Rikki Blu.

With Daniel Schultz—RCA Records' rap-focused A&R—at the shop for today's episode, hip hop comes to the forefront. We explore New York rap's vast spectrum of classic sounds from sharp-lipped Brooklyn lyricist Latasha Alcindor to the effortless flows and intricate stories of Gabe 'Nandez.
The tight and dynamic Vancouver five-piece Peach Pit offers "Alrighty Aphrodite" and a mesmerizing single from Denmark duo Smerz is played.
We dive into "Lost Inside You" by Uhmeer, a song co-producer by illustrious London DJ Eric Lau (previously featured on 2.2). Lau shared with us high praise for the furtive young artist: Uhmeer is "one of the most gifted young people I've met," he says.
